Neue Frutiger Condensed Font Free Download
There is no official Neue Frutiger Condensed free download. The family is a commercial Linotype release, now owned by Monotype, and the only official way to get the files is to buy a licence, mainly through MyFonts. A site offering the whole Neue Frutiger Condensed font for free is not an authorised source, and its files come with no licence.
Neue Frutiger Condensed free download: what’s actually available
We checked MyFonts, Monotype and Adobe Fonts. None offers a free, demo or personal-use version of the condensed family. Adobe Fonts lists Neue Frutiger World, a multi-script relative, but its page describes ten weights with italics and says nothing about condensed styles. Monotype’s subscription service has a 30-day trial for mockups and prototypes, with commercial use reserved for paid plans; the page does not list individual families, so confirm the condensed styles are included before relying on it.
On MyFonts, at the time of writing:
- Neue Frutiger Condensed Family Pack: 20 fonts for $344.99 USD
- Neue Frutiger Complete Family Pack: 40 fonts, normal and condensed widths, for $548.99 USD
- Individual styles: from $71.99 USD each
Buying gets you the OpenType files and the rights of the licence type you pick. Prices change, so confirm them on the listing.

Design and character
Neue Frutiger Condensed comes from one of the best-known signage typefaces. According to MyFonts, Adrian Frutiger and his studio drew the original Frutiger in the early 1970s for the wayfinding system of Roissy Charles de Gaulle airport in Paris. Other signage projects and printers soon wanted it, and Linotype released it as Frutiger in 1977. Neue Frutiger is the 2009 version, “revised and improved by Akira Kobayashi in close collaboration with Adrian Frutiger”. Unlike the 1999 Frutiger Next, with its larger x-height and calligraphic italic, MyFonts says Neue Frutiger “returns to the original 1977 design”. Wikipedia dates the condensed versions to 2010, also by Kobayashi.
Wikipedia describes Frutiger as a humanist sans serif with wide, open apertures, a very high x-height, a two-storey a and a single-storey g, built for clarity at a distance and at small sizes. The condensed cut narrows that skeleton so more characters fit on a line. The listing text praises the drawing for keeping visible curves in the shoulders of n, m and h, and for figures and an I, l and 1 that stay distinct at small sizes. We have not rendered this family ourselves, so treat those as the listing’s claims rather than our observations.
What’s in the Neue Frutiger Condensed package
According to the MyFonts listing, the Condensed Family Pack contains 20 fonts:
- Ten weights: Ultra Light, Thin, Light, Book, Regular, Medium, Bold, Heavy, Black and Extra Black
- Italics: a matching italic for every weight
- Format: OpenType (CFF outlines), per MyFonts’ tech specs
- Glyphs: MyFonts lists 480 in the Condensed Regular (Frutiger Neue LT Pro Cn, version 2.300)
The normal-width Neue Frutiger is sold as the 20-font Basic Family Pack, and the Complete Family Pack bundles both widths. MyFonts also mentions Neue Frutiger Variable, with weight and width axes, plus separate Paneuropean, Cyrillic, Devanagari, Bengali and 1450 families. There are no mockups or other extras.
Language support and OpenType features
MyFonts’ tech specs list Western, Central and Eastern European, Baltic and Turkish character sets, covering more than 100 Latin-script languages, Polish, Czech, Hungarian and Romanian among them. Greek and Cyrillic come in separate Neue Frutiger products.
Features listed for the Condensed Regular:
- Kerning and standard ligatures: spacing fixes and joined pairs such as fi, applied automatically by most apps, including Word, Canva and Cricut Design Space.
- Fractions, superscripts, subscripts and scientific inferiors: properly drawn small figures for recipes, footnotes and formulas.
- Proportional figures: numbers spaced to their own width for running text.
- Stylistic alternates and a stylistic set (ss01): alternative letter shapes; MyFonts does not say which characters change, so check the glyph view.
- Ornaments: decorative symbols reachable through a Glyphs panel.
- Localized forms: language-specific letter variants applied when you set the text language.
Alternates, stylistic sets, fractions and ornaments need an OpenType-capable app such as InDesign, Illustrator or Affinity. We cannot confirm whether any of them are mapped to the Private Use Area, so do not count on reaching them in Canva or Cricut.
Best uses and font pairings
Use it when the column is narrow and the copy is not: timetables, wayfinding panels, product specifications, tables, maps, captions and dense sidebars. Black and Extra Black make compact headlines. It is a neutral voice, so it will not give a brand personality on its own.
- Neue Frutiger in normal width for body text, since both widths share one design.
- Frutiger Serif, Linotype’s serif companion, whose x-height, weights and widths MyFonts says were coordinated with Frutiger.
- Source Serif 4 or Merriweather, free on Google Fonts, for long reading text under condensed headings.
Licensing: personal vs commercial use
Neue Frutiger Condensed has no free personal-use licence. MyFonts sells Desktop, Company Desktop, Webfonts, App, Electronic Doc and Digital Ad/Email licences. The Desktop licence, priced per user, covers commercial design work such as logos, signage, packaging, posters and PDFs. It does not cover websites, apps, e-books, digital ads or email, and it does not allow sharing the files or installing them on a server. MyFonts asks buyers to review the foundry’s EULA, as restrictions may apply to logos and trademarks. This is a general summary, not legal advice.

Free alternatives to Neue Frutiger Condensed
The three free Google Fonts often suggested here are all normal-width designs, so none saves space the way a condensed face does:
- Work Sans is a grotesque rather than a humanist sans, with plainer, wider letters.
- Space Grotesk has a technical, slightly quirky look better suited to tech branding than signage.
- Montserrat is wide and geometric and takes far more horizontal room.
For a closer free match in feel and width, try Fira Sans Condensed, a humanist sans on Google Fonts with condensed styles. People who search for a Neue Frutiger Condensed free download for small-size legibility will get further with it than with the three above.
Hoefler&Co. positions Whitney between American gothics and European humanists like Frutiger, and it is worth comparing if you need a humanist sans with narrow and condensed widths.

Adrian Frutiger’s earlier system sans, Univers, introduced the numbered weight-and-width naming; see our guide.
Neue Frutiger Condensed FAQ
Is there an official Neue Frutiger Condensed free download?
No. It is a commercial Linotype family sold through MyFonts, with no official free or demo version.
Can I use it for commercial work?
Yes, once licensed. A Desktop licence covers print and image work; websites, apps and e-books need their own licences.
Who designed Neue Frutiger Condensed?
Akira Kobayashi with Adrian Frutiger, based on Frutiger’s 1970s airport signage typeface.
What is the difference between Frutiger, Frutiger Next and Neue Frutiger?
Frutiger dates from 1977. Frutiger Next (1999) enlarged the x-height and added a calligraphic italic. Neue Frutiger (2009) returns to the 1977 design with ten weights.

Cricut Design Space uses fonts installed on your computer. Canva needs an upload, which a Desktop licence may not permit, so check the EULA.
