Privacy Policy
Last updated: 31 August 2026
Tantype publishes independent reviews of typefaces. This policy explains, in plain terms, what happens to your data when you read those reviews — what we collect, the cookies advertising partners set, how you control your consent, and how our affiliate links work.
We do not sell products on this site, we do not take payments, and we do not ask you to create an account to read anything.
1. What we collect
When you simply read a review, we collect no personal information. We count page views and clicks on download buttons in aggregate, using our own measurement built into the site. It does not set cookies, does not use your IP address to identify you, and cannot tell one visitor from another — it only increments a number against an article.
When you contact us, our contact form collects the name, email address and message you type, so that we can reply. That is the only place on this site where you volunteer personal details.
Automatically, our hosting and security provider (Cloudflare) processes standard server data such as IP address, browser type and the pages requested. This is used to deliver the site and protect it from abuse.
2. Cookies and similar technologies
Tantype itself does not set advertising or tracking cookies. Cookies on this site come from two third parties:
Advertising — Google AdSense
We show advertising through Google AdSense. Google and its ad partners set cookies from doubleclick.net and related domains to serve ads, limit how often you see the same ad, and measure performance. Cookies you may see include IDE and test_cookie.
Where you have consented, these may be used for personalised advertising. Where you have not, Google serves non-personalised ads instead. You can review and adjust how Google uses your data at My Ad Center and How Google uses information from sites that use its services.
Analytics — Google Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 to understand which reviews are read and how people find us. It sets its own cookies and processes data under Google’s Privacy Policy. IP addresses are handled by Google in accordance with their data-processing terms.
Essential
WordPress may set a small number of functional cookies — for example if you leave a comment or log in as an author. These are not used for advertising or profiling.
3. Your advertising consent
If you are visiting from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, you will see a consent message before personalised advertising cookies are used. It is provided by a consent management platform certified by Google, and it gives you a clear choice to consent, to refuse, or to manage individual purposes.
Your choice is remembered on your device. You can change or withdraw your consent at any time. If you do not see an option to revisit the consent message, clearing this site’s cookies in your browser will cause it to appear again on your next visit. You may also block or delete cookies entirely in your browser settings; the site will continue to work, and you will see non-personalised ads.
Visitors outside those regions are not shown a consent message, but the browser and Google account controls linked above still apply.
4. Affiliate links and how we earn
Tantype is free to read. We are funded by advertising and by affiliate commissions.
Many of our reviews contain affiliate links — most often the “Download This Font” button, which points to a marketplace such as Creative Market. If you buy or download a font through one of these links, we may earn a commission at no additional cost to you. These links are marked in the page code as sponsored, and the download box on each review carries a visible disclosure.
Affiliate networks may set their own cookies to attribute a referral to us. Being an affiliate does not change what we write: fonts are reviewed on merit, and a commission never buys a better score.
5. Contact form
Messages sent through our contact form are delivered by email and retained only as long as needed to handle your enquiry. We do not add you to a mailing list because you contacted us, and we do not pass your message to anyone else.
6. Newsletter
If you subscribe to our newsletter, the email address you enter is sent to Kit (formerly ConvertKit), the email platform we use to store our subscriber list and send messages. Kit acts as our processor and handles that data under its own privacy policy.
Subscription is double opt-in: after you submit the form, Kit emails you a confirmation link, and you are only added to the list once you click it. If you never confirm, nothing further is sent.
We ask for an email address and nothing else. We do not add you to the list because you contacted us or read an article — only because you asked. Every email we send carries an unsubscribe link, and one click removes you permanently. You can also write to us and we will delete you from the list ourselves.
The signup form on this site is our own markup — Kit’s tracking script is not loaded on Tantype, and no request is made to Kit at all unless you actually submit the form.
7. Comments
If commenting is open on an article, WordPress stores the comment text along with the name, email address and IP address supplied, in order to publish the comment and screen for spam. You can ask us to remove a comment and its associated data at any time.
8. Sharing your data
We do not sell or rent personal data. Data is shared only with:
- the service providers named above — Google (advertising and analytics), Kit (newsletter delivery), Cloudflare (site delivery and security), and our web host — each acting under their own privacy terms;
- legal authorities, where we are required by law to do so.
9. Data retention and security
Contact messages are kept only as long as they are useful for correspondence. Newsletter subscriptions are kept until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them. Aggregate view and click counts contain no personal data and are kept indefinitely. The site is served over HTTPS and sits behind Cloudflare’s security layer.
10. Your rights
If you are in the EU or UK (GDPR / UK GDPR), or in California (CCPA/CPRA), you have the right to:
- access the personal data we hold about you;
- request correction or deletion of it;
- withdraw consent for advertising cookies at any time, as described in section 3;
- object to processing, or request that we restrict it;
- lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
Because we collect so little, in most cases the only personal data we hold about a reader is a contact-form message or a newsletter subscription. Write to us at the address below and we will act on your request.
11. Children’s privacy
This site is intended for designers and other adults. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
12. Changes to this policy
We update this policy when the way we handle data changes — for example if we add or remove a third-party service. The current version always appears on this page with a revised “last updated” date.
13. Contact us
Questions about this policy, or a request about your data:
- Email: [email protected]
- Or use our contact form
