Eurostile Font Free Download
There is no official Eurostile font free download. Eurostile is a commercial typeface that Aldo Novarese designed for the Italian foundry Nebiolo in 1962, and today’s digital versions are sold by Linotype and URW Type Foundry. Neither foundry offers a free, demo or personal-use version. As of October 2026 the classic Eurostile LT family costs $313.99 for all 11 fonts on MyFonts, or from $39 for a single style. The one legal way to use it without buying it separately is Adobe Fonts, which includes URW’s Eurostile in paid Creative Cloud plans.
Eurostile font free download: is there a legal free version?
No. MyFonts’ Eurostile LT page and its URW Eurostile page sell licences only, with no trial files. Eurostile LT is a registered trademark of Monotype GmbH, which owns the Linotype library.
It doesn’t come with your computer either. Eurostile isn’t in Microsoft’s Windows 11 font list or Apple’s macOS Sonoma font list. Microsoft documents a two-style URW Eurostile but doesn’t say which product supplied it.
If you already pay for Creative Cloud, check Eurostile on Adobe Fonts first. Adobe lists URW’s Eurostile (10 fonts), Eurostile Extended (5) and Eurostile Condensed (4) for desktop and web use, plus Microgramma (3 fonts). They sit in Adobe’s full library, not the free tier.

From Microgramma to Eurostile
Eurostile started as a capitals-only face. URW’s Microgramma page says Butti and Novarese drew Microgramma for Nebiolo in 1952 “as an improvement on the squared-off Bank Gothic capitals”, and that the same designers revisited it ten years later, producing Eurostile.
The main addition was a lowercase. Fonts In Use dates the first release to 1962 in three styles (regular, extended and bold extended), with a bold in 1964 and a condensed in 1966. MyFonts’ URW page dates Eurostile itself to 1952, which looks like a mix-up with Microgramma.
Linotype released Eurostile Next, a full redraw led by its type director Akira Kobayashi, in early 2008, according to its own news archive. Its MyFonts description gives 2009 instead.
Design and character
Linotype’s description on MyFonts says Eurostile “has big, squarish shapes with rounded corners that look like television sets” of the 1950s and 1960s, and that it still gives text “a dynamic, technological aura”. URW adds that “the linear nature of Eurostile suggests modern architecture”. It arrived in the space-race years, and it still signals that era.
Eurostile Next goes back to the metal type. Linotype’s page on the redesign says Kobayashi found flaws introduced by metal typefounding and that earlier digital versions “did a poor job of translating Novarese’s original shapes, like the super curve”. The result has gentler curves and less weight difference between capitals and lowercase.
Which Eurostile should you buy?
MyFonts sells four related families (prices as of October 2026).
Eurostile LT (Linotype): the classic set
Eleven fonts: Roman, Demi and Bold with obliques, Condensed and Condensed Bold, Extended #2 and Bold Extended #2, and Outline Bold. Single styles are $40.99 ($39 for Outline Bold). MyFonts shows two “Complete Family Value Pack” listings with the same 11 fonts, one at $313.99 and one at $435.99, without explaining the difference, so compare both. A 4-font Condensed and Extended pack costs $125.99.
Eurostile Bold Extended and Eurostile Extended
In Linotype’s family, the wide, heavy style most people picture is Bold Extended #2, and Extended #2 is the regular-weight wide version. URW names its wide styles Extended Regular, Medium and Black; Adobe Fonts carries those.
URW Eurostile
URW’s family is the widest: Regular to Black in normal, condensed and extended widths, plus small caps, “Discaps”, a stencil and a relief style. MyFonts sells both Pro and Std files, with Pro styles at $89.99 each, Std styles from $35.99 and the 25-font complete pack at $1,197.
Eurostile Next and Microgramma
Eurostile Next has 50 fonts: five weights from Ultra Light to Bold, each with an italic, in five widths (Narrow, Condensed, regular, Extended and Wide). Each width pack is $314.99 and the full family $524.99. Microgramma, the caps-only original, is $35 per style from URW.
Language support and OpenType features
We read the tech specs MyFonts publishes for each style:
- Eurostile LT Pro: 388 glyphs and more than 120 Latin-script languages. Features include fractions, ordinals, superscripts and discretionary ligatures.
- URW Eurostile Pro: 437 glyphs and about 135 Latin-script languages, with kerning, ligatures and localised forms. Small caps come as separate fonts.
- Eurostile Next: 643 glyphs (660 in italics) with true small caps, case-sensitive punctuation, tabular and proportional figures, superiors, inferiors and fractions. The italics add a stylistic set.
In plain terms, these features swap in the right characters for you: numbers that line up in tables, ½ instead of 1/2, small caps for acronyms. Sources conflict on scripts. Linotype said Terrance Weinzierl was adding Greek and Cyrillic to Eurostile Next, and Adobe Fonts lists Greek and Cyrillic languages for URW’s Eurostile, yet MyFonts’ specs show Latin only. Check the glyphs before buying if you need either.
Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, Affinity and Figma can turn these features on. Canva and Cricut Design Space can’t reach OpenType features, so you get the default characters.
Eurostile font pairings and best uses
Eurostile suits headlines, logos, interface labels, packaging and anything meant to look technical or retro-futuristic. Fonts In Use records it in over 300 projects, including:
- Radiohead’s OK Computer (1997), which uses Eurostile Bold Extended for the band name
- Steely Dan’s Countdown to Ecstasy (1973), with the band name in Eurostile Extended Bold
- Air’s Moon Safari (1998), alongside ITC Pioneer
- The Casio F-91W watch, where most of the case text is Eurostile
Its sci-fi fame needs care. The title cards of 2001: A Space Odyssey are Gill Sans and Futura; Typeset in the Future finds Eurostile Bold Extended on the Pan Am flight deck and HAL 9000’s screens.
For pairings, keep body text quiet: Inter or IBM Plex Sans for reports and interfaces, IBM Plex Mono for data readouts, Source Serif 4 for editorial contrast.
Eurostile licensing: personal and commercial use
A MyFonts Desktop licence, priced per user, covers personal and commercial design work: logos, videos, PDFs, posters, packaging and social posts. Embedding the font in a website, app, e-book, email or digital ad needs a Webfont, App, Electronic Doc or Digital Ad/Email licence instead. Company Desktop is an annual licence priced by headcount. MyFonts also asks you to read the foundry’s EULA, since some restrict logo or trademark use.
Adobe’s font licensing FAQ says Adobe Fonts are licensed for personal and commercial use, including client work. This is general information, not legal advice.

Free fonts similar to Eurostile

These Google Fonts come closest. All three use the SIL Open Font License, which allows commercial use.
- Michroma: Vernon Adams’s reworking of the rounded-square style that Microgramma and Eurostile made famous. It is the closest match to Eurostile Extended, but it has only one weight, no italic and no condensed width.
- Saira: a squarish sans by Hector Gatti and Omnibus-Type with a weight axis from 100 to 900, a width axis from 50 to 125, and italics. It is narrower than Eurostile by default, but its range makes it the best free stand-in for the whole family.
- Orbitron: a wide geometric display face that designer Matt McInerney describes as an alternative to Eurostile and Bank Gothic. Its shapes are more rigid and blocky, with a slashed zero, so it reads more sci-fi than mid-century. Weights run 400 to 900, basic Latin only.
Among the paid fonts we review, Geom Graphic is a squared-off geometric sans built for retro-futurism, Briganix is a futuristic modern sans, and Brigends Expanded is a bold, wide all-caps sans for headlines.
Eurostile grew out of an earlier Nebiolo design; for the 1952 original and its “D Extended” naming, see our guide to Microgramma.
Eurostile font FAQ
Is Eurostile font free?
No. It is a commercial font from Linotype and URW Type Foundry. You can license it on MyFonts, or use URW’s version through Adobe Fonts with a paid Creative Cloud plan.
Is Eurostile on Adobe Fonts?
Yes. Adobe Fonts lists URW’s Eurostile, Eurostile Extended and Eurostile Condensed, plus Microgramma, in its full library. We didn’t find Eurostile Next there.
Who designed Eurostile?
Aldo Novarese, for Nebiolo in 1962. It grew out of Microgramma, which he drew with Alessandro Butti in 1952. Akira Kobayashi led the 2008 Eurostile Next redesign, and Terrance Weinzierl later expanded it.
What is the difference between Eurostile and Microgramma?
Microgramma has capitals only. Eurostile added a lowercase and more styles; Typeset in the Future calls their capitals “nigh-impossible to tell apart”.
Is Eurostile in Canva or Cricut?
We couldn’t confirm it in either built-in library. Canva Pro lets you upload font files, but check that your licence allows uploading to an online service before you do.
What is the closest free font to Eurostile Bold Extended?
Michroma is closest in shape, though it is lighter. For a heavy, wide look, use Saira at a bold weight and maximum width, or Orbitron Bold.
