TAN Nimbus Font Free Download

TAN NIMBUS Font
TAN NIMBUS Font

The quickest way to settle the TAN Nimbus free download question is to look at where the font is actually sold. TanType Co. lists TAN Nimbus on Creative Market as a paid font, and we found no official demo, personal-use file or free version on that listing or anywhere else the foundry publishes. A Desktop licence was $17 when we checked.

TAN Nimbus free download: official status and price

TAN Nimbus has been on Creative Market since July 2021. In October 2026 the listing offered these licences:

  • Desktop: $17 per seat, covering logos, print, merchandise and images for websites and social media.
  • Webfont: $17 list, for embedding on a website.
  • E-pub: $34 list, for ebooks and digital publications.
  • App: $136 list, for use inside an app.

The page showed small discounts on the last three. Trial fonts are mentioned only for Enterprise/Custom licences arranged with Creative Market’s sales team, which is not a public demo.

The licensed download behind our specimens includes OTF, TTF, WOFF and WOFF2 files: one Regular style, 341 glyphs. Copies posted on free font sites do not come from TanType and carry no licence, so they are not a safe basis for merchandise or client logos.

Design and character

TanType describes TAN Nimbus as “a psychedelic inspired typeface” that is “retro, bold, and playful.” The specimens fit that description. This is a very heavy display face in the late-1960s and 1970s poster tradition, with strokes that swell and pinch as if the letters were slowly melting.

Things you notice in the character set:

  • Counters are tiny. In the B, e and a they shrink to small slits, which gives the text a dark, dense texture.
  • The N uses a curved diagonal, and the R and K kick their legs out in curves rather than straight lines.
  • Ascenders on b, d, h and l end in angled, wedge-like tops, a nod to old serif display types.
  • The figures are round and bulbous, and the ampersand is an S-like swirl.

One quirk is worth knowing before you set a poster. The brackets, parentheses, braces, slash, maths signs and the ring of the @ are drawn as thin hairlines. Next to the heavy letters they look like they come from a different font. Avoid those characters at large sizes, or set them in a different typeface.

What’s in the TAN Nimbus package

  • Style: one, Regular. No italic, no other weights, not variable.
  • Formats: OTF, TTF, WOFF and WOFF2.
  • Glyphs: 341, covering upper and lowercase, figures, punctuation and accented letters.
  • Version: 1.000, according to the font files.

The listing does not mention bonus graphics, mockups or ornaments.

Language support and OpenType features

TAN Nimbus covers Basic Latin, Western European and Central/Eastern European characters, which means the accented letters for languages such as French, German, Spanish, Polish and Czech are present.

OpenType features are minimal:

  • Kerning: automatic spacing between letter pairs, used by nearly every app.
  • Fractions: turns 1/2 into a proper fraction when the Fractions feature is enabled in an OpenType-aware app such as InDesign or Illustrator.

There are no stylistic alternates or ligatures, and nothing is mapped to the Private Use Area. That is good news for Canva and Cricut Design Space users: what you see in the character map is the whole font, so you lose almost nothing compared with Illustrator, apart from automatic fractions.

Best uses and font pairings

Use TAN Nimbus where a short word needs to be loud and warm: gig and festival posters, record sleeves, café and bar signage, T-shirt graphics, retro packaging, YouTube thumbnails and social headers. It needs size to breathe. Below headline sizes those small counters fill in.

Pair it with a calm, open sans so the page is not all weight. DM Sans and Karla both read cleanly at small sizes. For a 1970s print feel, Space Mono for captions or prices works as an accent.

Licensing: personal vs commercial use

There is no personal-use edition of TAN Nimbus, so a hobby project needs the same licence as client work. Creative Market’s font licence terms say the Desktop licence covers “unlimited commercial and personal projects,” including merchandise and paid ads. Fonts used on the web or in games under that licence must appear as images (rasterised). Embedding font files on a website, in an ebook or in an app needs the Webfont, E-pub or App licence. Desktop is sold per seat, so a team of three needs three seats, and you may not share the files. This summary is not legal advice.

How to install TAN Nimbus

Download TAN Nimbus from your Creative Market purchases and unzip it. Then:

  • Windows: right-click the .otf file (or the .ttf) and choose Install.
  • Mac: double-click the file, then click Install Font in Font Book.
  • Canva: upload the OTF, TTF or WOFF in Brand Kit. Canva’s help page says this needs a paid plan.

Restart open apps so the font shows up.

The same line in TAN Nimbus and in Shrikhand, Rubik Mono One, Bebas Neue

If a TAN Nimbus free download is not an option, these Google Fonts are free for commercial use. None has the melting 70s shapes, but each covers part of the job:

  • Shrikhand: the closest in mood. Heavy, retro and curvy, but slanted like a brush italic, while Nimbus stands upright.
  • Rubik Mono One: heavy and blunt, but monospaced and caps-only. It feels more like an arcade game than a psychedelic poster.
  • Bebas Neue: a tall, condensed caps sans. Clean and practical for headlines, with none of Nimbus’s curves or contrast.
