TAN Meringue Font Free Download
TAN fonts are designed and sold by TanType Co. Tantype is an independent review site — we’re not affiliated with TanType Co. and don’t host or sell their fonts.
A legitimate TAN Meringue free download doesn’t exist. TanType Co. sells this retro display font only as a paid product, and we found no official demo, trial or personal-use version. Sites offering it for free are distributing files the designer never released for free.
If you want the real TAN Meringue font, the official route is the foundry’s Creative Market listing. A Desktop licence was $19 when we checked. Below we explain what a TAN Meringue free download from an unofficial site would leave you without, and what the paid files actually contain.
TAN Meringue free download: what’s actually available
We went through the Creative Market listing for TAN Meringue and searched for a demo on other official channels. There is no free tier. The page’s mention of “trial fonts” is part of Creative Market’s enterprise licensing offer and isn’t specific to this font. In October 2026 the listing priced its licences at:
- Desktop: $19 per seat
- Webfont: $19
- E-pub: $34
- App: $152
Combining licence types gets 15% off, according to the page. The listing says buyers receive .otf, .ttf, .woff and .woff2 files, multilingual support and “free future update(s)”. The OTF, TTF, WOFF and WOFF2 files are all in the licensed copy we examined, so that part checks out.

How TAN Meringue is drawn
The listing calls it “a retro display typeface” whose “curves give it a fun personality”. Looking at the specimens rendered from the font files, it is a high-contrast face with almost no serifs. Strokes swell from thick to hairline-thin, and the ends flare slightly instead of finishing in brackets or slabs. That puts it somewhere between a 1970s phototype display face and a contrast sans.
The curves are not decoration added on top. They are built into the skeleton of the letters. The capital M is made of wavy, S-shaped strokes. The E is rounded like an epsilon. The lower bowl of the B is left open, and the U, V and W have curved, uneven sides. In the lowercase, the a is drawn with a loop, the g has a large open tail, and the y swings its descender to the left. The figures are narrower and more upright, with a flat-topped 3. The proportions are fairly condensed, so long words fit on a line at large sizes.
The result looks warm and a little theatrical, a good fit for food, fashion and lifestyle work where a plain geometric sans would feel cold.
What’s in the TAN Meringue package
- One style, named Display in the font files. There is no bold, light or italic.
- 340 glyphs, covering upper and lowercase, figures, punctuation and accented letters.
- Four formats: OTF and TTF for desktop apps, and WOFF and WOFF2 for websites.
- Version 1.000. Creative Market dates the product to 2 August 2021.
- Designer: Novia Jonatan, per the font files, published by TanType Co.
The listing doesn’t mention mockups, SVG files or ornaments, so the package is the font itself.
Language support and OpenType features
The licensed file supports Basic Latin, Western European and Central and Eastern European characters. That covers English and most languages written in the Latin alphabet across Europe, such as French, Italian, Dutch, Polish, Czech and Romanian.
The OpenType features are:
- Stylistic alternates: some letters have a second design. In Illustrator, InDesign or Photoshop, select a letter and pick its alternate from the Glyphs panel, or switch on stylistic alternates for the whole text. Affinity and Figma offer the same option in their typography settings.
- Kerning: built-in spacing for specific letter pairs, applied automatically by almost every app.
- Fractions: converts typed fractions such as 1/4 into proper fraction glyphs when the feature is switched on.
The font has no Private Use Area (PUA) mappings. In practice, the alternates are only reachable in an OpenType-capable app. Canva, Cricut Design Space and most office software will show the default letters only.
Best uses and pairings
TAN Meringue is a headline font. It suits bakery and dessert branding (the name invites it), café menus, cosmetics packaging, fashion and lifestyle social posts, event posters and retro-themed logos. Its hairlines need a reasonable size, so it isn’t a good choice for captions or body text.
For pairings, give it a quiet partner:
- Karla or Work Sans for menus, product descriptions and body text.
- DM Serif Text if you want a serif for longer passages with a related vintage flavour.
- Space Mono for prices or small details, if a quirky contrast fits the brand.
Licensing: personal vs commercial use
There is no free personal licence for TAN Meringue. Every licence on the listing is paid and covers a different medium. Desktop covers “logo design, print media, souvenirs, merchandise, and creation of images for websites or social media”, according to the listing. Webfont is for using the font on a website, E-pub for e-books and digital publications, and App for software. One seat covers one person. A copy taken from a free-font site carries none of these licences, and it doesn’t get the free future updates the listing promises buyers. Check the full terms on the listing for your use case. This overview is not legal advice.
How to install TAN Meringue
- Unzip the download and open the folder.
- Windows: right-click the .otf file and choose Install.
- Mac: double-click the .otf file and click Install in Font Book.
- Restart your design software. Install either OTF or TTF, not both. Keep WOFF and WOFF2 for your website.
Free alternatives to TAN Meringue

- Abril Fatface is the closest in contrast. It is a heavy Didone with fine hairlines, but it has proper serifs, a far heavier weight and none of Meringue’s wavy, open shapes.
- Lobster shares the retro mood but works very differently. It is a bold connected script that slants, where Meringue is upright with separate letters.
- Righteous is a rounded geometric display sans with an art deco feel. It has almost no stroke contrast, so it looks bolder and more uniform. It works when you want retro without the elegance.
Each gets you part of the look for free. None reproduces the curved M, open B and swinging g that make Meringue recognisable.
TAN Meringue FAQ
Is TAN Meringue free?
No. We found no official free or demo version. Any TAN Meringue free download outside the Creative Market listing is unofficial. A Desktop licence was $19 at the time of writing.
Can I use TAN Meringue in a logo for my business?
Yes, with a paid licence. The listing says logo design is a common use of the Desktop licence.
Does it work in Canva or Cricut?
The standard letters do, once installed or uploaded (Canva needs a paid plan for custom fonts). The stylistic alternates won’t be accessible there, because the font has no PUA codes.
Who designed TAN Meringue?
Novia Jonatan of TanType Co., according to the font files. Tantype.com is an independent review site, unrelated to the foundry.
Can I use it on my website?
Yes, with the Webfont licence. The download includes WOFF and WOFF2 files for that purpose.
