Unison Pro Font Free Download

Unison Pro
Unison Pro

A Unison Pro free download does not exist from any official source: Unison Pro is a commercial extended sans serif from the foundry Type Juice, designed by Matthew Messiha, and it is sold only with a paid licence. The several “Unison Pro Bold free download” pages that show up in search are not connected to the foundry.

Unison Pro free download: what’s actually available

We checked the Creative Market and MyFonts listings and searched DaFont and the wider web for a Type Juice shop of its own. There is no demo, trial file or personal-use edition of Unison Pro. The only “trial” mentioned on either store is a general one (Creative Market’s enterprise programme and a Monotype Fonts subscription trial on MyFonts), not a free copy of this family.

At the time of writing, the paid options are:

  • MyFonts: individual styles from $19, or the complete family of 8 fonts for $39.
  • Creative Market: Desktop licence $29 per seat for the family, with Webfont, E-pub and App licences sold separately.

Either way you get the whole Unison Pro font family: Light and Bold, each with an italic, a rounded version and a rounded italic. The licence is what lets you use it in client work, logos and print. Prices change, so confirm them on the listing.

Design and character

Unison Pro is a low, very wide sans serif. In the specimens rendered from the licensed files, every capital is stretched horizontally, and the round letters are drawn as squared ovals: O, C, D and G have flat sides with rounded corners, a shape common in automotive, sports and tech logos. Stroke ends are cut straight, the R has a straight diagonal leg, and the zero is slashed, which keeps it from being confused with the O in codes and model numbers.

The most unusual character is the ampersand, drawn as a long, looping horizontal stroke rather than the usual compact figure. The type designer calls the capitals “stylised caps”, and in our copy the font is caps-only: the lowercase keys give the same capitals. The Bold weights are dense and very wide, while the Light weights are thin and airy, so the two ends of the family give quite different moods. MyFonts describes it as minimal and suited to headers, logos, posters and titles.

What’s in the Unison Pro package

  • 8 fonts: Light, Light Italic, Light Round, Light Round Italic, Bold, Bold Italic, Bold Round and Bold Round Italic
  • Formats: the listings name OTF and TTF; our copy contains OTF files (version 1.001)
  • Glyphs: the listings say over 1,700 glyphs; our copy has 225 in Light Round

That glyph gap is large. Our files may be an earlier build than the one now on sale, or the listing may count all eight fonts together, so if you need a specific character, check the listing preview or ask the seller. Creative Market shows the product created in February 2021; MyFonts lists its debut there as September 2021.

Language support and OpenType features

Our copy covers Basic Latin (English) and Western European languages. The listings only say “multilingual”, without naming languages, so test accented names before committing.

The only OpenType feature in the files is kerning, which adjusts spacing between specific letter pairs and runs automatically in almost every app, including Canva, Cricut Design Space, Word and the Adobe apps. There are no ligatures or stylistic sets to switch on.

Our copy does contain 11 glyphs mapped to the Private Use Area (PUA), code points outside the normal alphabet. You cannot type them, but you can copy them from Character Map on Windows or Font Book on a Mac and paste them into Canva, Cricut Design Space or any other app; they display correctly as long as the text is set in Unison Pro. Illustrator and InDesign users can also insert them from the Glyphs panel.

Best uses and font pairings

Unison Pro suits short, all-caps lines with room to spread: a logotype for a car, gaming or fitness brand, a poster title, a product name on packaging, or a website hero heading. The width eats space quickly, so it is a poor choice for long headlines, narrow columns or body text.

  • Inter for body copy and interface text next to Unison Pro headings.
  • IBM Plex Mono for specs, prices or captions with a technical feel.
  • Use the Light weight for subheads under a Bold title to keep everything in the family.

Licensing: personal vs commercial use

There is no free personal-use licence. Creative Market sells per-seat Desktop licences for making graphics, print and logos, plus separate Webfont, E-pub and App licences; MyFonts sells its own licence types for desktop, web and other uses. Any Unison Pro free download from a third-party site carries no licence from Type Juice. Read the licence that comes with your purchase for the exact terms; this is not legal advice.

How to install Unison Pro

  • Windows: unzip, select all eight .otf files, right-click and choose Install.
  • Mac: unzip, double-click each .otf file and click Install Font in Font Book.
  • Restart your design app. In Canva Pro, upload the OTF files through Brand Kit.

Free alternatives to Unison Pro

If a Unison Pro free download was what you needed, these Google Fonts are the usual free substitutes. All three have lowercase and normal widths, so none reproduces Unison Pro’s stretched, squared caps:

  • Inter: a neutral, highly legible sans built for screens. Great for body and UI text; plain and narrow next to Unison Pro.
  • Outfit: geometric and round with a modern logo feel. Set in capitals with wide letter-spacing, it gets closest to the airy look of Unison Pro Light.
  • Josefin Sans: geometric with a vintage, art-deco touch and a low x-height. More decorative, less technical.

Unison Pro FAQ

Is Unison Pro free?

No. There is no official free or demo version. The complete 8-font family is $39 on MyFonts at the time of writing.

Can I use Unison Pro for a logo?

Yes, with a Desktop licence, which covers creating logos and graphics.

Does Unison Pro have lowercase letters?

No. In our copy the lowercase keys produce the same capitals.
