TAN Egret Font Free Download
We could not find any official TAN Egret free download, demo or personal-use version: TanType Co. sells TAN Egret as a commercial display font. You can license it on TanType’s Creative Market shop, where a desktop licence was $17 per seat when we checked in October 2026.
TAN Egret free download: what TanType actually offers
The official source is the TAN – EGRET listing on Creative Market, published by TanType Co., the foundry of designer Novia Jonatan. The listing sells licences only. It does not mention a free trial, and we found no free TAN Egret file on any TanType-run page.
So a TAN Egret free download offered elsewhere does not come from the designer and carries no licence.
The listing says a licence includes:
- OTF, TTF, WOFF and WOFF2 files.
- Multilingual support.
- Free future updates.
Licence prices when we checked in October 2026: Desktop $17 per seat, Webfont $17 (shown at $14.45 with a discount), E-pub $34 ($31.45) and App $136 ($133.45). The listing was created on 11 October 2021.

The design, in the designer’s words
TanType’s description is one line: TAN Egret is “an elegant display font with the classic twist, suitable for a wide array of design applications.” The type historian Luc Devroye, who catalogues TanType’s releases, lists Egret among the foundry’s 2021 fonts and describes it as “a condensed display serif.”
Put together, that points to a narrow serif made for headlines rather than body text. We have not examined the font files, so look at the preview images on the listing to judge the details, such as the serifs and the contrast between thick and thin strokes. TanType’s catalogue leans toward decorative, classical display faces, and Egret sits in that family as one of the foundry’s 2021 releases.
Formats in the package and when to use each
- OTF: install this on Windows or Mac for design apps, Word and Canva desktop uploads.
- TTF: an alternative desktop format. Install either OTF or TTF, not both.
- WOFF and WOFF2: web formats for a website’s CSS. They need the Webfont licence, not the Desktop one.
The listing promises multilingual support but does not list the languages. Type a sample with the accents you need before using it on a non-English project.
Where a condensed display serif earns its place
Condensed letters take up less width, so a condensed serif can set a long headline in large type without wrapping. That makes TAN Egret’s style a natural fit for:
- Magazine and blog headlines, and book covers.
- Posters and event flyers with a classic or vintage tone.
- Packaging labels, where a product name must fit a narrow panel.
- Wordmarks for boutiques, cafés or beauty brands.
For body text, pair it with something quieter. A clean sans such as DM Sans or Lato keeps the contrast clear. If you prefer an all-serif look, EB Garamond reads well in paragraphs under a display serif headline.
Licensing basics
Creative Market’s Desktop licence covers “unlimited commercial and personal projects,” including physical products, packaging, social media and paid ads. Teams buy one seat per person who installs the font. Websites need the Webfont licence, e-books need E-pub (one title per licence), and apps need the App licence.
The Creative Market font licence page also sets conditions for using a font in a logo you plan to trademark. Read it before you build a registered logo around TAN Egret. This is a summary, not legal advice.
Installing TAN Egret
- Download the zip from your Creative Market purchases and unzip it.
- Windows: right-click the OTF file and select Install, or Install for all users.
- Mac: double-click the OTF file and click Install Font in Font Book.
- Restart Photoshop, Illustrator, Word or any other open app so the font appears in its menu.
Free Google Fonts instead of TAN Egret
These three free fonts are available under the SIL Open Font License, which allows commercial use. Only one of them is a serif, so think about what you liked in TAN Egret before you pick.
- Abril Fatface is a heavy, high-contrast display serif. It is the closest of the three in mood, though it is wide and bold rather than condensed.
- Lobster is a bold connected script. It keeps a retro, decorative feel but swaps the serif structure for joined letters.
- Righteous is a rounded geometric display sans with an art deco flavour. Choose it if the “twist” matters more to you than the classic serif.
None of these is condensed, so they need more width for the same headline. If a narrow serif is the whole point, a free font will not fully replace the TAN Egret font, and paying for the licence is the honest answer to the TAN Egret free download question.
TAN Egret FAQ
Is TAN Egret free for personal use?
Not officially. TanType Co. sells it as a commercial font, and the Creative Market listing offers no personal-use or demo file.
Who designed TAN Egret?
TanType Co., the foundry run by designer Novia Jonatan. Luc Devroye’s catalogue lists it among TanType’s 2021 releases.
How much is TAN Egret?
A desktop licence was $17 per seat on Creative Market in October 2026. Webfont, E-pub and App licences cost more and cover different uses.
What file formats does TAN Egret include?
OTF, TTF, WOFF and WOFF2, according to the listing. It also lists multilingual support and free future updates.
Can I use TAN Egret on a website?
Yes, with the Webfont licence, which covers the WOFF and WOFF2 files on sites you own or control up to an agreed pageview limit. The Desktop licence alone does not cover embedding the font on a site; a rasterized image of a headline made in a design app is a different matter.
