Fushijin Japanese Font Free Download
If you are searching for a Fushijin Japanese free download, the short answer is that we could not find an official free version in October 2026. Fushijin is a commercial brush font by Indonesian studio Maulana Creative. MyFonts sells it as MC Fushijin, with styles from $16.
Is there a Fushijin Japanese free download from the designer?
Maulana Creative does give away many fonts. Its DaFont profile lists hundreds of typefaces, a large share marked free for personal use. Fushijin is not one of them: a DaFont search for “fushijin” returns no results. The MyFonts listing offers no demo either.
That leaves the paid route. Where we found it on sale:
- MyFonts, as “MC Fushijin”: one style, from $16, released on MyFonts on 5 August 2024. Licence types on the page include Desktop, Company Desktop, Webfonts, App, Electronic Doc and Digital Ad/Email.
- Creative Market, as “Fushijin Japanese Font” in the Maulana Creative shop. A category page showed it at $15 in October 2026.
A site advertising a Fushijin Japanese free download of the full font, outside the designer’s own channels, is not an authorised source. Those files often come without a licence, so anything you make with them is at risk. The safe test before buying is the type-in preview on the store pages, which shows the brush texture on your own words.

What Maulana Creative says about Fushijin
The listing calls Fushijin a Japanese-style brush font with “an authentic brush handcrafted feel.” The designer’s own copy says its handcrafted look evokes traditional brush calligraphy. MyFonts credits the design to Gilang Maulana and the publishing to Maulana Creative.
Two points are worth separating:
- Japanese style, Latin letters. The listing presents it as a font for a Japanese look in English-alphabet designs. It does not mention kana or kanji, so do not plan on it for Japanese-language text.
- One weight. MyFonts lists a single style. There is no bold or light version to build a hierarchy with.
We have not opened the font files and will not describe individual letters. The preview images on the official pages show the brush texture better than any description.
Files and formats in the Fushijin package
According to the designer’s listing text, Fushijin comes in three formats:
- OTF: the usual choice for desktop apps such as Photoshop, Illustrator, Affinity and Word.
- TTF: an alternative desktop format. Install one of OTF or TTF, not both, to avoid duplicates in your font menu.
- WOFF: a web format for websites. Using it on a live site needs a web licence.
The listings we checked do not state the character count, ligatures or language coverage. The MyFonts page has a Glyphs tab: check it for accented letters if your copy needs them.
Projects that suit the Fushijin Japanese font
Maulana Creative lists Japanese-style designs, stationery, logos, typography quotes, website headers and branding. Translated into real jobs, that looks like:
- Ramen bar, sushi or izakaya menus and signage.
- Anime or manga fan merchandise, posters and event flyers.
- Martial arts school logos and dojo banners.
- Tea, sake or matcha packaging that wants a calligraphic accent.
- Short quote graphics for social media.
Brush fonts are loud. Keep Fushijin for a word or a short line, and set everything else in a quiet companion. Noto Sans is a safe body font, and its Noto Sans JP sibling covers Japanese characters if your design mixes in real Japanese text. For a cleaner modern look, Montserrat works well in small caps under a brush headline.
Personal vs commercial use
Since there is no free personal-use version, every use of Fushijin needs a paid licence. MyFonts splits licences by use, so match the licence to the job:
- Desktop: installing the font to make logos, print, packaging and images.
- Webfonts: live text on a website through @font-face.
- App and Electronic Doc: embedding in an app or an e-book or PDF.
- Digital Ad/Email: live text in ads and emails.
Creative Market has its own licence tiers with different terms. Read the licence on the store where you buy. This summary is not legal advice.
Installing it on Windows or Mac
Unzip the download, then pick the OTF file. On Windows, right-click it and choose Install. On a Mac, double-click it and press Install in Font Book. Restart open apps so the font appears. For Canva, a paid plan lets you upload the OTF or TTF file through the Brand Kit if your licence covers that use.
Free alternatives to Fushijin
The three free Google Fonts below are scripts, not Japanese-style brush fonts. They are free for commercial use, but none of them recreates Fushijin’s dry-brush, calligraphic mood. Think of them as stand-ins for a handmade feel, not substitutes.
- Parisienne is a connected, formal script with a French mood. It gives you elegance instead of the energy of a brush stroke.
- Italianno is a light, narrow calligraphic script. It suits invitations and labels where Fushijin would feel too heavy.
- Dancing Script is a casual, bouncy script that comes in several weights. It is the most flexible of the three for headings and body accents.
If the Japanese look is the whole point of the project, a free script will not get you there. Buying the Fushijin licence is the honest answer.
