Flatline Sans Complete Font Free Download

Flatline Sans Complete
Flatline Sans Complete

Flatline Sans Complete free download searches mostly turn up file-sharing pages, but the designer, Up Up Creative, does not offer a free or demo version of this family. Flatline Sans Complete is a commercial font: the 16-style family is sold through the foundry’s own shop and on Creative Market, and both sell it with a paid licence.

Flatline Sans Complete free download: what’s actually available

Up Up Creative’s product page says plainly that demo versions are not offered. In their place the shop has a live type tester, so you can type your own words in every weight before paying. We found no official personal-use version on the foundry’s site, on Creative Market or at the major font retailers, so a “free” Flatline Sans file from anywhere else is not a licensed copy. Note that several unrelated fonts simply called “Flatline” exist on free-font sites; they are different designs by other people.

At the time of writing, the complete family with a one-user Desktop licence is listed at $80 on both upupcreative.com and Creative Market. Creative Market also sells Webfont, E-pub and App licences, and the foundry’s shop offers web licences tiered by monthly pageviews plus an ePub licence. Prices change, so check the listing before you buy.

A licence gets you 16 OTF fonts (eight weights, each with an italic), the full OpenType feature set, an installation guide and FAQ, and the right to use the font under the EULA you choose.

Design and character

Flatline Sans belongs to a small group of sans serifs with real stroke contrast. In the specimens rendered from the licensed files, vertical stems are heavy while joins and curves thin out to near-hairlines: the arches of n and m pinch where they meet the stem, the top of the a is a fine line, and the crossbar of the e is barely there. Stroke ends are cut flat, and the effect is closer to a fashion-magazine headline than a UI sans.

A few letters give it its personality. The M has splayed outer strokes, the Q ends in a long, nearly flat tail, the J drops below the baseline, and the lowercase g is single-storey with an open hook. Ascenders are tall next to a modest x-height, which gives words an airy top line. Up Up Creative describes the family as high-contrast and aimed at headlines, editorial layouts, advertising, luxury logos and wedding invitations. That matches the specimen: the contrast looks deliberate at large sizes, while at text sizes the hairlines get fragile.

What’s in the Flatline Sans Complete package

According to the Creative Market listing and the foundry’s product page, the current product includes:

  • 16 fonts: ExtraLight, Light, Regular, Medium, SemiBold, Bold, ExtraBold and Heavy, each in roman and italic
  • OTF files for desktop use (the foundry supplies WOFF and WOFF2 with its web licences)
  • Nearly 500 glyphs per font, according to Creative Market; the foundry’s page gives 453
  • An installation guide and FAQ

The family first appeared in 2019, and the foundry describes a major 2021 update that expanded it to eight weights. The copy we inspected predates that update. It contains six styles (Regular, SemiBold and Bold, each with an italic) at version 1.000, with 439 glyphs in the Regular, and the specimen and specs on this page come from those files. If you buy the Flatline Sans Complete font today, you get the larger 16-font family.

Language support and OpenType features

Our copy covers Basic Latin (English) and Western European languages. The foundry lists 209 languages for the current release, which we could not check.

OpenType features in the files we inspected:

  • Standard ligatures: pairs such as fi and fl join into one shape automatically in most modern apps.
  • Discretionary ligatures: decorative combinations you switch on yourself, for example in the Character or OpenType panel in Illustrator and InDesign.
  • Kerning: spacing adjustments between specific letter pairs, applied by default in nearly every app, including Canva and Word.
  • Old-style, lining and tabular figures: old-style numbers rise and drop like lowercase letters inside running text, lining numbers sit at cap height, and tabular numbers share one width so columns of prices line up.
  • Fractions: turns 1/2 into a proper stacked fraction when switched on.

The listing also mentions character variants and four ampersand styles. None of the extra glyphs in our copy are mapped to Private Use Area code points, so you need an OpenType-capable app such as Illustrator, InDesign, Affinity Designer or Photoshop’s Glyphs panel to reach alternates. Canva and Cricut Design Space will only show the default letters. Creative Market notes the seller can supply a special file if you need every glyph in a character map.

Best uses and font pairings

Flatline Sans fits headlines, magazine covers, logotypes for beauty, fashion or interiors brands, and names on an invitation. The weights from SemiBold upward hold up better on screen and in small print.

  • Cormorant Garamond for subheads or short text with a similar refined, high-contrast feel.
  • Lato or Source Sans 3 for long body copy, where Flatline’s hairlines would be too thin to read comfortably.
  • Flatline Serif, the companion family Up Up Creative sells separately, if you want a matched serif.

Licensing: personal vs commercial use

There is no free personal-use licence, so every use needs a paid licence, and any site promising a Flatline Sans Complete free download is not an official source. Up Up Creative’s shop sells a one-user Desktop licence (making graphics, print work and logos), web licences priced by monthly pageviews, and an ePub licence per title, with broadcast and server licences by email. On Creative Market the Desktop licence is per seat, and Webfont, E-pub and App licences are separate purchases. Read the EULA for the exact terms; this is a summary, not legal advice.

How to install Flatline Sans Complete

  1. Unzip the download.
  2. Windows: select the .otf files, right-click and choose Install (or Install for all users).
  3. Mac: double-click each .otf file and click Install Font in Font Book.
  4. Restart the apps you want to use it in. Canva Pro users can upload the OTF files through Brand Kit instead.

If a Flatline Sans Complete free download was what you were after for a personal project, the closest you will get legally is a free stand-in. None of these three Google Fonts copies Flatline’s thick-thin contrast; they are monoline sans serifs.

  • Outfit: geometric, with even strokes and round bowls. Clean and modern, but noticeably plainer and heavier at the same size.
  • Josefin Sans: shares a vintage, elegant mood, a low x-height and long ascenders, but its strokes are uniform and its letters wider.
  • Poppins: sturdy and geometric with a large x-height; good for UI text, least like Flatline in tone.
